SC Johnson will increase the percentage of PCR plastic that it leverages in its North American and European bottles from the existing 20% to 40% by 2025.

A series of commitments have been announced to further reduce the company’s own plastic footprint.

The company aims for 100% of plastic packaging to be recyclable, reusable or compostable by 2025 from the current 90%.

Plans also include expansion of the number of concentrated refill options for SC Johnson products by 2025.

The company said since 2011, it has been making concentrated liquid refills for its Home Cleaning trigger bottle products in the US.

Every trigger bottle is designed to deliver 10,000 sprays, allowing it to be refilled and reused for an average of 13 times.

The company said it will continue to expand its variety of concentrated refill options, allowing consumers to reuse packaging and reduce waste.

SC Johnson said it will continue to eliminate excess plastics wherever possible. 9.5 million kilograms of materials have been removed from the company’s packaging from 2011 to 2017.

The company will continue its effort to make curbside recycling of flexible plastic film like Ziploc brand bags a reality in the US. It is also promoting reuse of Ziploc brand bags, which are made to be reused many times.

SC Johnson will also work with industry and NGOs to further support the circular plastic economy and keep plastic out of landfills and the environment.

SC Johnson chairman and CEO Fisk Johnson said: “With the increasing spotlight on the global plastic waste crisis, we wanted to share our efforts externally. We hope they inspire other companies to take similar steps toward a circular plastic economy, because the planet simply cannot sustain the status quo.”

SC Johnson said it is committed to increase plastic reuse and stop plastic pollution. The company’s brands such as Windex, Scrubbing Bubbles, OFF! and Mr Muscle have dedicated resources focused on product packaging.
