German plastic films manufacturer RKW Group has announced a seven-figure investment at its Echte site to manufacture plastic films with high recycled content.

The company is also planning to expand its production capacity in the area of industrial packaging, thereby helping to secure more jobs in the region.

The new five-layer extrusion line is said to be the latest of the company’s several investments at the Lower Saxony site. It will be used for the industrial packaging product group.

With more than 240 employees, the Echte facility represents the company’s centre of competence for industrial packaging.

The research, development and production capabilities of FFS and ProVent sacks are located at the Echte facility.

The FFS bags and ProVent sacks produced at the Echte facility are said to be suitable for the packaging of powered goods such as cement or other building materials, foodstuffs such as sugar, spices or salt and various chemicals in quantities between 15kg and 25kg.

Its other production capabilities consist of valve box sacks, transport packaging and garbage bags.

In a statement, RKW site director Markus Brinkmann said: “We want to offer our customers more sustainable packaging solutions for industrial packaging with new formulations.

“This includes, for example, a steadily growing proportion of recycled plastics in the packaging. State-of-the-art equipment like this enables us to do that.”

RKW stated that the higher energy efficiency of the plant and the lower production waste supports sustainable production, in addition to the increased use of recyclates.

Earlier this month, RKW Group’s business unit RKW Agri introduced a new e7 silage barrier film, which is designed for the protection of silage and support easier handling.
