Flexible packaging company ProAmpac has expanded its ProActive Recyclable series of polyethylene-based structures with the introduction of the new R-2000D series.

The company has designed the new R-2000D as a drop-in replacement for conventional multi-material laminates and run at high speeds on form/fill/seal equipment.

ProAmpac is offering the R-2000D in standard, high barrier and ultra-high barrier forms to enhance the shelf-life of dry products.

Both standard and high barrier platforms were tested and pre-qualified for polyethylene store-drop-off recycling.

The R-2000D, which is available in rollstock or premade pouches, provides high clarity, high drop resistance, better stiffness and dimpling resistance for premium shelf appearance.

The company stated that its new barrier solution delivers better directional tear without the support of laser scoring, as well as offers improved toughness for sharp products such as nuts, pet treats and pretzels.

ProAmpac’s new barrier solution also facilitates optimal speeds with efficient heat resistance capability. It also supports high operating window and high efficiencies on filling lines.

ProAmpac product development and innovation vice president Hesam Tabatabaei said: “Engineering a high-performance recyclable solution that replaces high barrier PET/PE, Nylon/PE, PET/metalized PET/PE, and in some cases PET/Foil/PE was a multi-year material science research and development project.

“R-2000D is engineered to withstand aggressive filling and distribution environments. Its unique multilayer technology allows it to run on high-speed filling lines without facing film or ink distortion in the seal area especially for products with a reclose feature.”

Available with matte or gloss registration, the R-2000D series uses the company’s HD flexographic printed graphics.

ProAmpac chief commercial officer Adam Grose said: “ProAmpac continues to deliver on our mission to help our customers meet their sustainable packaging goals.

“The ProActive Recyclable R-2000D series replaces conventional multi-material laminated films with recyclable alternatives without sacrificing performance.”

Earlier this month, ProAmpac launched new HC-Series of healthcare materials, which can be used in a variety of market applications.
