Flexible packaging and material science firm ProAmpac has partnered with Aptar CSP Technologies to introduce ProActive Intelligence Moisture Protect (MP-1000).

Moisture Protect MP-1000 is a patent-pending breakthrough moisture-adsorbing active packaging technology that removes the need for desiccant packets.

The MP-1000 platforms are said to be suitable for applications that require optimal moisture control, like point-of-care diagnostic kits, live culture probiotics, and hygroscopic powdery food products.

The platform uses Aptar’s CSP Technologies’ 3-Phase Activ-Polymer platform technology to lower the moisture level in the packaging headspace.

ProAmpac global product development and innovation senior vice president Hesam Tabatabaei said: “We are excited to launch the Moisture Protect MP-1000 platforms, the newest addition to the ProActive Intelligence product line.

“This innovative product has a high moisture-adsorbing capacity and is set to revolutionise moisture protection in flexible packaging.

“Our extensive material science work and exclusive collaboration with Aptar CSP Technologies has enabled us to bring the latest active packaging products to the market.”

The MP-1000 platforms eliminate sachets, lower downtime, and increase product quality/texture through the prevention of clumping.

In addition, the technology reduces product waste through prolongation of shelf life.

The flexible packaging company said that the solution absorbs excess moisture inside the package headspace of probiotics and hygroscopic food products.

It also protects the contents from moisture exposure which usually happens when moisture molecules pass through the packaging.

Aptar CSP Technologies APAC GM and global commercial operations vice president Badre Hammond said: “We are pleased to unveil this new platform of active material solutions with ProAmpac.

“This goal of this collaboration is to transform the way active packaging is delivered and fulfil unmet needs by providing the market with a fully integrated, flexible, multi-layer film solution, powered by CSP’s proven Activ-Polymer technology.”

In September last year, ProAmpac introduced its patent-pending ProActive Recyclable RP-1000 High Barrier (HB) paper-based technology.
