Protective packaging materials maker Pregis has received the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS for its Grand Rapids, Michigan facility.

The certification was awarded in support of the company’s performance flexibles solution offering. It includes mass balance chain of custody option offering supply chain traceability.

The certification will allow Pregis to create solutions that are categorised as circular, bio-circular, and/or bio-base for food, medical, and other performance critical applications.

Pregis said that obtaining ISCC PLUS certification demonstrates its dedication to assist clients in enabling a circular economy.

The company developed Pregis Performance Flexibles Renew Series film solutions with bio-certified materials to meet the need for flexible packaging options that support customers’ performance and sustainability objectives.

Pregis Performance Flexibles president David Timm said: “This milestone is fundamental in our engineering of film solutions that meet the high sustainability requirements of ISCC PLUS throughout the value chain.

“We’re able to continue to drive innovation in blown films and expand our specialty films capabilities within the food and medical packaging areas along with other high-performance applications.”

The certification also supports Pregis’ mission to ‘Protect, Preserve, Inspire,’ and its aim to deliver high-performing goods that support a circular economy.

The Grand Rapids location is the first Pregis plant in the US to receive the certification. The company’s Heerlen, the Netherlands location also has ISCC PLUS certification. It will seek certification for other locations in the future.

Recently, Pregis expanded its Inspyre product line with the addition of the new Inspyre Mailer to help fight water insecurities.
