UK-based packaging and paper firm Mondi has installed a new flexo printing line at its plant in Gronau, Germany.

The new line will help the company to meet the demand for advanced printing options and provide greater flexibility in femcare pouch wrapping film designs and materials in the hygiene industry.

Mondi said that the investment in the new printing line will help the company provide flexo printing services alongside its current rotogravure capabilities.

The line is based on the latest sleeve technology, ensuring better results in vibrant colour with a quick output.

The press will be able to deliver premium looking films with matt additives and effect inks.

The latest line includes inline siliconization, eliminating the need for release paper, as well as inline embossing, to make quieter, extra discrete wrappers.

In addition, the line’s precision registered printing for eye mark accuracy will enable the printing machine to make complicated designs requested by clients. Mondi can now have separate prints on the front and back of wrapping films, as well as partial siliconization for a more cost-effective printing run.

Mondi personal care components managing director Jürgen Schneider said: “The new flexo printing line enables us to better serve our customers in the hygiene industry through an altogether smarter printing process.

“Inline inspection systems for colour and silicone quality guarantee product reliability, while low ink consumption, minimal waste and shorter set-up times make this type of printing efficient and therefore also highly suitable for customers with varying lot sizes.

“What’s more, our installation can handle different film materials, including biodegradable or recycled content stock, which supports our customers’ sustainability goals.”

Last month, Mondi developed a new 100% recyclable corrugated packaging for Warmhaus, a Turkish radiators and boilers producer for home heating.
