Coffee selling company Melitta has announced new packaging for cone coffee filters with two certifications that support the firm’s ongoing sustainability efforts in the coffee industry.

The new packaging for Melitta cone filter boxes includes a new fully recycled paperboard.

The certifications include Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI) and the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certifications.

These certifications and Melitta’s partnership with American Forests demonstrate the company’s dedication to making decisions that benefit the environment and future generations.

The Melitta Cone Coffee Filters are made with compostable materials in commercial settings that allow compostable products, as verified by the BPI certification.

The company said that coffee enthusiasts can now experience their drink while actively contributing to waste reduction and environmental protection by selecting these filters.

In addition, the FSC certification ensures that Melitta Cone Coffee Filters’ paper is sourced from ethically managed forests.

The company supports local communities’ means of livelihood and the preservation of ecosystems by emphasising sustainable forestry methods.

The new offering also aligns with the brand’s commitment to sustainability and offering environmentally friendly solutions.

Melitta sustainability director Donna Gray said: “As a brand dedicated to sustainability as one of our guiding values, we continue to innovate within our supply chain to align with stringent global standards set by organisations like the FSC and BPI.

“Paired with corporate volunteerism and giving back through our partners, our commitment is to work towards the pursuit of better coffee and a better planet.”

Melitta aims to integrate eco-friendly methods into all aspects of its business operations to provide packaging and goods that are environmentally conscious.

Since 2017, the company has used solar power to power its coffee roasting facility in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, US.

Melitta has also planted over 600,000 trees in the US during its more than 20-year cooperation with American Forests, significantly improving the lives of wildlife, humans, and the environment.
