American Pureplay adhesives provider H.B. Fuller Company has completed the strategic acquisition of Adhezion Biomedical and XCHEM International with a profitable growth strategy.

The two deals are expected to transform H.B. Fuller’s portfolio toward more highly specified applications and enhance the diversification of its construction adhesives (CA) business.

US-based Adhezion Biomedical is a medical adhesives business with customers in 40 nations, with around 35 global certifications and 105 patents. It produces and distributes advanced wound closure and infection prevention adhesives.

H.B. Fuller acquired Adhezion to enter the topical skin bonding market. The deal also expands the capabilities gained from its purchase of Tissue Seal in 2021.

It will also add vertically integrated adhesive manufacturing and packaging capabilities, the adhesives provider said.

The acquisition positions H.B. Fuller for growth in the medical adhesives sector and establishes a strong, distinctive platform to advance in the healthcare adhesives market.

XCHEM International is a Middle Eastern maker of adhesives that provides an overall range of speciality adhesives and coatings for infrastructure and industrial applications in the construction market.

H.B. Fuller’s acquisition broadens CA’s range of highly specific applications and diversifies CA’s portfolio towards both non-US and infrastructure-oriented markets.

Additionally, it provides the firm’s CA worldwide business unit with its first production presence for its flagship Foster brand outside of the US.

H.B. Fuller president and CEO Celeste Mastin said: “As we further penetrate highly specified applications through new technologies and reduce the amount of material our customers need through innovation in existing, higher volume segments, we create value for our customers and investors.

“Although small, these two acquisitions represent outstanding platforms to capitalize upon and expand our portfolio into high-growth, highly specified markets, consistent with our strategy.”

Upon completion of the deal, XCHEM will operate within H.B. Fuller’s CA worldwide business unit, while Adhezion Biomedical will operate within the company’s Hygiene, Health, and Consumable Adhesives global business unit.

In March this year, the adhesives provider joined RecyClass to advance the circularity of plastic packaging and promote recyclability and recycled content practices in Europe.
