Adhesives provider H.B. Fuller Company has joined RecyClass to improve the circularity of plastic packaging and promote recyclability and recycled content practices in Europe.

RecyClass is a comprehensive cross-industry initiative for companies that intend to improve the recyclability of plastic products.

It adds firms from the entire plastics value chain to optimise plastic packaging recyclability and recycled plastic uptake to promote plastic waste and recycled plastic content traceability in Europe.

RecyClass initiative drives traceability via Recyclability Evaluation Protocols, rigorous scientific testing methods and certification of innovative materials.

H.B. Fuller Global Packaging sustainability manager Elizabeth Staab said: “This is an exciting and challenging period for the packaging industry. Collaboration throughout the supply chain is vital if we are to achieve changes that improve the world for this generation of consumers and the next.

“Sustainability is a core pillar of our business strategy at H.B. Fuller, and we are joining RecyClass to expand collaboration across the value chain. It is important we continually invest in understanding the full plastic recycling supply chain and its greatest challenges.

“There are many ways that adhesives can make a positive contribution while encouraging innovation in the sector to advance the industry.”

The adhesives provider uses technologies that meet the future needs of a circular economy, fast-changing regulatory requirements and consumer environmental awareness.

H.B. Fuller said that adhesives are part of the final plastic packaging. The adhesives are defined as recycling enablers and key performers in the recyclability approach.

The firm develops efficient packaging solutions to support plastic applications. These solutions, like PET bottles, rigid plastic containers for home care, and flexible packaging, are designed with performance and recyclability in mind.

The RecyClass initiative is expected to support the company’s goal to achieve a circular economy.

Established in 1887, H.B. Fuller is an adhesives provider with a focus on perfecting adhesives, sealants, and other speciality chemical products.
