Cosmetics brand Earth Mama Organics has announced its partnership with rePurpose Global to recover as much nature-bound plastic waste as it utilises for its packaging and distribution.

The firm, which is now Certified Plastic Neutral, will prevent nearly 88,000 lbs. of plastic waste, which would otherwise landfilled, burned, or flushed into the oceans each year.

With its collaboration with rePurpose Global, an alliance of environmentally aware customers and businesses, Earth Mama Organics tracks all the plastic used in Earth Mama’s operations and goods.

The company is funding the responsible collection and processing of an equal amount of plastic garbage from the environment.

rePurpose Global concentrates on removing low-value plastic waste from its calculations, such as candy bar wrappers, snack bags, etc. as these plastics are most likely to wind up in the environment.

Earth Mama Organics founder and CEO Melinda Olson said: “We have seen the devastating amount of waste generated every day by our industry, so to us, the urgency of this crisis was impossible to ignore. Our planet needs us and Earth Mama is taking strong strides to do our part.

“Our mission has always been to offer our customers safe and effective products while creating a deep impact on society. We truly believe in the power of brands to affect long-lasting change.”

Project Sada Shakti in Bangalore, India uses donations from Earth Mama’s Plastic Neutral campaign to recover an equal amount of plastic waste from the surrounding area while paying waste workers a living wage and creating a dignified workplace.

In total, the projects under the rePurpose Global community will empower more than 10,000 marginalised trash workers worldwide and the annual removal of over 11 million pounds of plastic waste from the environment.
