Japanese co-packer Cosmo Foods is set to install a high-speed combismile filling machine from SIG at its facility in Komono to add carton packs to its portfolio.
With this move, the co-packer will become the first company in the country to implement the technology and aims to help food and beverage brands to meet changing market requirements.
According to SIG, customer demand for convenient and sustainable packaging solutions for the on-the-go consumption of healthy beverages continues to increase in Japan.
Featuring leak-proof and tamper-evident single action closure, combismile offers mobile consumers with convenient consumption option from the pack.
Its curved corners are designed to help mobile consumers for convenient grip.
Combismile is produced using only paperboard made of pulp from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified sources.
SIG said that its combismile filling machine offers an increased output of 24,000 carton packs an hour, flexibility, short delivery times, and lower waste rates.
Cosmo Foods president Hideki Kasai said: “Cosmo Foods currently offers co-packing of beverages in plastic packaging, but we have decided to add carton packs to our portfolio because of their excellent environmental profile.
“SIG’s filling technology makes it possible for us to also fill beverages with pieces in carton packs and easily make product and volume changes. With this new system, we will give brand owners the opportunity to offer products with high added value.”
The installation of combismile filling machine is also expected to benefit DNP-SIG Combibloc, a 50-50 joint venture between Japan-based Dai Nippon Printing (DNP) and SIG.
