Eastside Distilling has agreed to start canning full lineup of Oregon-based Dear Mom Wine's wines.

Dear Mom Wine was launched last year and its line-up includes Oregon Red, Rosé, White and soon-to-be-launched Sparkling.

Eastside has a custom built canning line that claims to drive efficiencies and meet the expected growth in demand for the wine brand this year.

Dear Mom expects to increase its production from 6,000 cases last year to about 16,000 cases this year. While it is presently being distributed in Oregon and Southwest Washington, it is planning to expand into the Northeast and Florida this year.

Eastside CEO Grover Wickersham said: “This is the quarter when our vision of being in on the ground floor of single serve wine canning starts to take shape as promised. We expect to launch wine canning this month with our first production and ramp the business as fast as we can reasonably and practically do so.

“Having product on shelves is going to go a long way towards establishing our credibility with the scores of wineries in Oregon and Washington that we see as potential customers.”

Eastside Distilling's MotherLode subsidiary and Dear Mom Wine are planning to tap in to the changing trend within the canned wine market.

The canned wine segment is experiencing growth because of new entrants and innovation, as customers are seeking convenient and alternatives to fit their lifestyles, along with sustainability and benefits of cans. In the last two years, canned wine sales have doubled.

MotherLode’s wine canning line includes features such as 5-head counter pressure filler and single head seamer. This allows for production volume to be 3,000 24-can cases per day. The canning line has been designed to produce slim cans in 187m, 200ml and 250ml sizes.

For Dear Mom Wine, MotherLode will offer canning in 187ml cans in four-pack case, which is equivalent to a typical 750ml of wine bottle.

The slender and slim can is claimed to be a smart format for brands seeking to target single-family households and time-constrained consumers looking for high-quality, convenient, immediate drink solutions.

MotherLode’s canning is capable of canning wine and other RTD beverages that contain up to 20% alcohol by volume.
