US-based healthcare packaging products manufacturer Comar has launched a new one-piece child resistant closure, SecureCap QuarterLoc, to help manufacturers meet sustainability goals and reduce manufacturing complexity.

The QuarterLoc closure is a one-piece push-and-turn bottle closure designed to allow users to only quarter turn to apply or remove.
Unlike existing two-piece child resistant closures which require molding and assembly of two plastic component, the new the new closure is a single molded part.
In addition to reducing packaging costs without sacrificing functionality, the closure is compatible with multiple products and has passed the Consumer Product Safety Commission testing protocols for both child resistance and senior friendly performance.
Comar said that the reduction in the part weight and assembly steps for the manufacturing the new closure helps in component part savings for manufacturers.
Comar business segment director Sue Benigni said: “Our SecureCap QuarterLoc is useful for vitamin, mineral, and supplement products because of its proven child resistant performance.
“We’re helping to deliver child-safe performance while lowering manufacturing costs.”
Additionally, the firm has developed bottles with neck finishes especially for use with QuarterLoc closures in order to offer complete system to customers.
The QuarterLoc, which is manufactured in facilities that meet cGMP and ISO 9001:13485 quality standards, is made from polypropylene and works with PET bottles
According to the firm, the QuarterLoc CR closure’s patented design offers a cost effective solution as it can be easily integrated into existing packaging lines. It is also both adaptable and scalable for multiple products.
Comar said in a statement: “By providing a secure closure with just a quarter turn, QuarterLoc is easier to use because it eliminates the potential of thread misalignment and cocked caps.”
The manufacturers can use standard foil induction liners or in-line conduction liners with the closures, if required, the firm noted.
Owned by Morgan Stanley Capital Partners, part of Morgan Stanley Investment Management, Comar operates eight manufacturing and distribution facilities.
The firm’s facilities host rigid plastic packaging technologies including injection molding, injection blow molding, injection stretch blow molding, and extrusion blow molding.
