US-based packaging company Coastal Container has announced an investment of $25m to expand its facility in Holland, Michigan and add on-site corrugating capabilities.

The expansion will add 65,000ft² of space to its existing facility and will create more than 60 jobs in the coming years.

Of the total amount, $16m will be invested in a 110″ Fosber corrugator, $2m for new honeycomb equipment from GTW and the remaining $7m will be used for building and railroad construction.

Construction is expected to be completed in early next year, with equipment acquisitions and installation expected to be finished in mid-2023.

Coastal Container CEO Brent Patterson said: “Our family has been in the corrugated business for 60 years now.

“In these past couple of years, Coastal Container has seen tremendous growth, which allows us to make this expansion to better serve our customers and community.”

According to Coastal Container, the new equipment will bring in-house corrugating capabilities and expand its honeycomb capabilities.

The corrugator machine can run over two billion ft² of material per year and utilises Fosber’s Syncro technology to support the latest in Industry 4.0 innovation.

The new rail spur will enable the firm to receive the raw materials in the form of rolls instead of corrugated sheets which will eventually save over 150,000 gallons of diesel fuel and reduce over 1,000,000 miles of truck traffic from roads per year.

Patterson added: “Companies have a lot of choices for paper and corrugated products at large corporations.

“This expansion positions us as the only locally owned and operated company in the region who can make corrugated on-site, build packaging and provide this level of control over our product quality and process.”
