Catalent Pharma Solutions has announced that work related to expansion of primary packaging capabilities at its Chinese clinical facility is slated to be completed by the end of this year.

The expanded project work at Catalent facility in Shanghai has reached the commissioning stage.
Catalent’s expansion project is comprised of a new automated and high-speed bottling line designed for capsule and tablet products.
The new line will help the company to enhance the packaging capacity by up to 100 bottles per minute, in addition to offering rapid and easy changeover required for clinical-scale production.
The expansion is said to follow the firm’s announcement that work is underway to open a new clinical facility outside of free trade zone (FTZ) in Shanghai.
Catalent’s new facility will compliment its three clinical packaging facilities in the Asia Pacific region located in Shanghai’s Waigaoqiao FTZ, Singapore and Kakegawa of Japan.
Catalent also provides a range of clinical supply solutions in the region, including clinical supply management, comparator sourcing, FastChain demand led supply, secondary packaging, storage and global distribution and clinical returns and destruction.
Catalent clinical supply services global operations vice president Roel de Nobel said: “Globally, almost 2,000 industry sponsored clinical trials were conducted in the last two years.
“Our continued investment in Asia Pacific reflects the importance of, and the continued growth of clinical trials in Asia, driving the need for in-region packaging services.”
Based in Somerset of New Jersey, Catalent offers advanced delivery technologies and development solutions for drugs, biologics and consumer health products.
With more than 11,000 employees, the company operates over 30 facilities across five continents. It generated around $2.5bn annual revenue in fiscal 2018.
In March this year, Catalent acquired Australian pharmaceutical packaging business, Pharmapak Technologies, for an undisclosed amount.
Pharmapak is specialized in producing primary and secondary packaging for oral pharmaceutical dose forms like blisters, bottles and a range of tertiary packaging services.
In addition, the acquired business allowed Catalent to improve its regional packaging capabilities and complemented its existing facility in Braeside of Victoria.
