Expected to create about 20 new full-time positions, the investment will see the installation of seven new conversion machines for conventional and pre-stretched hand film at the fully automated conversion centre.

The new machinery, upon commissioning, is expected to increase production capacity at the advanced manufacturing facility to 15,000 tonnes of cast machine film and 8,000 tonnes of hand film.

bpi stretchfilms commercial director Kurt Grazier said: “bpi stretchfilms is committed to investing back into its facilities to ensure its product portfolio remains at the cutting edge.

“This project gives us an excellent platform for further product innovation and future capacity expansion.”

The Bridgwater factory is equipped to produce polyethylene film for advanced packaging, which protects palletised products from damage during transit.

bpi stretchfilms claims that its durable pallet wrap range will help in keeping the goods dry and free from contamination in addition to providing load stability to keep goods stable in transit, handling and storage.

The site, which holds the ISO 9001 quality accreditation standard and the ISO 14001 environmental accreditation standard, produces products that meet the highest quality levels and environmental standards, the firm noted.

Furthermore, the new conversion centre is expected to benefit from the latest production technologies and become the business’s Conversion Centre of Excellence for both its blown and cast extrusion hand films and its range of pre-stretched hand and machine film.

The manufacturing site will allow bpi stretchfilms to supply a complete range of pallet stability solutions from one facility.

Recently, RPC Group said it has joined the UK Plastics Pact, the collaborative initiative launched by The Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) with an aim to create a circular economy for plastics.

By bringing together the entire plastics packaging value chain, the pact aims to reduce the amount of unnecessary plastic packaging and build a stronger recycling system.
