The company has launched the new Ink-on-Demand (IoD) system that requires only 30gm of ink in the print unit to operate and does not require ink trays and chambered doctor blades.

BOBST said that the IoD system needs only a few grams of ink and washing liquid to perform full wash-out and ink change, and is expected to reduce the costs and environmental burdens.

The company has also launched new DigiColor system that performs ‘on-the-fly’ job changes of color Delta E. To match the targeted Delta E, each of the constituent seven Extended Color Gamut (ECG) inks is split into a darker and a lighter ink, which are mixed in-line.

BOBST said that the DigiColor features a closed-loop color control that attains digital color-matching, color consistency at any speed, on any substrate, with any operator worldwide.

DigiColor system facilitates converters and brand-owners to rely on a new ‘digital’ technology to protect their brand identities and the system is expected to provide major time savings and quality improvement benefits.

In addition, BOBST is collaborating with ESKO, AVT, Pantone and X-Rite, to launch a new solution that allows ‘digital’ traceability, from the original file, to the press, to the job validation and final storage of digital data generated from the final printed job.

The solution is designed based on the company’s Digital Flexo technology and combines WebCenter, ColorCert, SpectraLab and PantoneLive assets, to enable a fully digitalized and connected workflow that transforms the way labels and flexible packaging is done.

The company said that the traceability project is based in the REVO Academy in BOBST Firenze, which is open to converters across the world to test and get training on turnkey ECG solutions, delivered by the 12 REVO members and partners.

BOBST CEO Jean-Pascal Bobst said: “The label and packaging industry is clearly going digital, in terms of processes, value creation, and new business models. The collaboration between partners is essential to the success of our industry and the packaging industry as a whole. BOBST is helping to drive the industry transformation with meaningful innovation and real collaboration, which will result in solutions that fulfil the requirements of converters and brand owners alike.”
