US-based hybrid packaging supplier Berlin Packaging has acquired Elias Valavanis, a Greek glass packaging company that caters to the food and beverage sector.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Based in Larissa, Elias Valavanis also has locations in Bulgaria and Romania.

The company is said to be a major supplier of bottles and jars for olive oil, wine, spirits, water, and soft drinks in the region.

Elias Valavanis is also claimed to have long-term relationships with its supplier partners.

The company serves more than 1,500 customers, who also benefit from its package structural design, decoration capabilities, and other value-added services along with its own glass recycling facility.

Berlin Packaging Europe CEO Paolo Recrosio said: “Elias Valavanis is the perfect partner for Berlin Packaging as we expand our operations to the Balkans and continue to augment our Mediterranean glass business.

“Elias Valavanis shares our passion for glass design and artistry and our commitment to help our customers grow their business by offering industry-leading packaging products and services.”

The Greek glass packaging firm is the 15th acquisition made by Berlin Packaging in Europe since 2016, and also its fifth acquisition in the continent this year.

All the Elias Valavanis’ employees and locations will be retained and the company will be rebranded as Berlin Packaging | Elias Valavanis.

Elias Valavanis CEO Elias Valavanis said: “We take tremendous pride in all aspects of our business, and we know we’ve found a like-minded partner.

“I am excited about combining our company with Berlin Packaging, as I know together, we can accelerate investments in our products, capabilities, and employees like never before.”

Last month, Berlin Packaging acquired Raepak, a supplier of plastic packaging for the cosmetics and personal care end-markets, based in Norwich, England.
