Aptar Food + Beverage, a business unit of AptarGroup, has announced the introduction of its recyclable SimpliCycle valve technology in the new Kraft Heinz Ketchup packaging.

Kraft Heinz will also integrate Aptar’s SimpliCycle valve technology in the packaging of other brands such as Heinz Mustard, Heinz Mashups, and Heinz BBQ Sauce by the end of this year.

Kraft Heinz packaging sustainability research lead Chris Max said: “We are proud of our collaboration with Aptar on the utilization of the SimpliCycle valve as it helps further advance our goal of full package recyclability by 2025.”

Produced using low-density material, the SimpliCycle valve can be easily separated from the PET stream and recycled within the PP/PE olefin stream without affecting the performance, cleanliness, control and convenience of silicone valves.

Aptar Food + Beverage stated that it has secured recognition for its development of SimpliCycle TPE valves with closures for PET, HDPE, and PP bottles from the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR).

The recognition was provided by confirming the technical recyclability of the valve in line with the APR Critical Guidance Protocol.

Aptar Food + Beverage key account manager Beth Morris said: “Many of our customers have set goals for full package recyclability, without compromising on packaging performance and the overall consumer experience.

“It is our goal and mission to help them achieve the most ambitious sustainability objectives.”

In May this year, Aptar Food + Beverage launched new PolkaLite closure, which is integrated with SimpliCycle valve technology.
