Antares Vision Group, an Italian provider of track and trace systems and quality control solutions, has announced an expanded partnership with pasta maker Pastificio Rana for driving more efficiency to the latter’s product and packaging control process.

The partnership between Antares Vision Group and the pasta manufacturer was launched in 2019. It began with the supply of innovative line inspection systems for spotting the presence of micro-holes in the modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) of the latter’s products.

Antares Vision Group provided inspection machines fitted with FT System technology to Italian production plants and recently to the American plants of Pastificio Rana in Barlett, Illinois.

Antares Vision Group board of directors member and FT System CEO Fabio Forestelli said: “We are proud to strengthen this partnership with Pastificio Rana, both through our technological excellence in product quality and integrity control solutions, and through our global presence.

“Investing in research and innovation is in Antares Vision Group’s DNA: we are today able to offer a full technological ecosystem to guarantee food safety as well as Track & Trace and efficiency solutions, to protect each product from origin and to monitor it at each step of the supply chain to the final consumer, to fight counterfeiting and to provide support to agrifood companies and large-scale retail as their technological partner.”

Micro-holes, which cannot be noticed by the naked eye, cannot be examined except by sampling. This can cause serious damage to products with regard to shelf-life while altering their organoleptic characteristics, said Antares Vision Group.

Quality control is carried out on the packaged item without the need to decrease the speed of the line or reduce the composition of the gas used for preserving the product.

The in-line detection of micro-holes presence is done by using infrared (IR) spectroscopy, which allows the presence of target molecules that escape from the packaging and seal defects to be discovered, said Antares Vision Group.
