The company said both label detection products appear clear under normal lighting conditions, but make it easier to identify if the label is present when exposed to UV light.

UPM Raflatac is set to unveil new pharmaceutical and healthcare labeling solutions for increased patient safety at this year’s CPhl Innopack exhibition in Madrid, Spain.

Among the solutions the company will exhibit include latest innovations for increasing patient safety and ensuring compliance with the EU Falsified Medicines Directive (2011/62/EU), which is set to come into force in February 2019 in the most of EU member states.

The Falsified Medicines Directive intends to enhance the safety of packaging for prescription drugs and high-risk over-the-counter medicines. In the EU region, around 30 billion packs are expected to be affected each year.

The UPM Raflatac pharmaceutical labeling range is comprised of four different tamper-evident solutions, which immediately makes clear whether the packaging is being tampered before it reaches the patient.

According to the company, the solutions have been developed to easily integrate with existing packaging designs.

The firm’s pharmaceutical and health care labeling solutions also include migration safe label materials, labeling solutions for small-diameter containers and compliant materials for blood bag and IV labeling.

The company recently launched new Vanish PCR line of ultra-thin clear film labels with recycled content face.

The new Vanish PCR clear film labels, which are available with 90% recycled content face and liners, can be used for any brand in the beverage, food, home and personal care segments.

UPM Raflatac is engaged in the development of advanced and sustainable labeling solutions, and is also one of major of self-adhesive label materials.

Via global network of factories, distribution terminals and sales offices, the company distributes paper and film label stock for consumer product and industrial labeling applications.

With around 3,000 employees, the company has generated sales of around $1.9bn in 2017.
