The new resins, ASTUTE QPsK905 and ASTUTE QHsK908, use the company’s Advanced SCLAIRTECH technology to manufacture polyethylene-based sealant resins
Canada-based plastics and chemical company NOVA Chemicals has introduced a new range of high-performance plastomer resins under ASTUTE brand.
The new resins, ASTUTE QPsK905 and ASTUTE QHsK908, use the company’s Advanced SCLAIRTECH technology to manufacture polyethylene-based sealant resins.
NOVA Chemicals said that the plastomer resins will help downgauge, reduce weight and provide superior processability and sealant properties.
The product range will become a new building block for all polyethylene (PE) recyclable packaging allowing converters and brand owners to meet their sustainability targets, said the company.
ASTUTE QPsK905 plastomer is said to be ideal for use as a single layer or in blends. It provides superior package integrity and strong sealing on a wide range of packaging equipment, including high-speed packaging lines.
Less pellet and film blocking make ASTUTE QPsK905 plastomer easy to handle compared to traditional plastomers.
ASTUTE QHsK908 displays one of the broadest hot tack windows and lowest seal initiation temperature with a better seal around contamination. It offers superior package integrity on high-speed packaging equipment.
The plastomer is said to be suitable for packaging sharp products such as crackers and bone-in meats.
ASTUTE products are said to be suitable for a wide range of applications, including food packaging, heavy-duty sacks and e-commerce.
NOVA Chemicals PE marketing and circular economy vice president Greg DeKunder said: “The extension of NOVA Chemicals’ Advanced SCLAIRTECH technology into plastomers will allow our customers to design high-performance, mono-material packaging which can become truly circular.”
With the addition of very low-density polyethylene and plastomers, the company continues to provide the full range of resins, from high-barrier / high-density to linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE).
