Planned to be commissioned in Q1 2019, the new paper recycling system will have capacity to process 20 tons per hour (tph) and run three shifts to process approximately 120,000 tons annually.

The system features Max-AI Visual Identification System (VIS) to enable monitoring of the outbound paper quality.

Norsk Gjenvinning head Frode Karlsen said: “We are extremely pleased to have signed with BHS for a new paper line for our production facilities in Oslo, Norway.

“The level of automation and technology is astounding and will help us achieve new levels of throughput and quality.”

Other technologies of the system include six National Recovery Technology (NRT) optical sorters and four Max-AI Autonomous Quality Control (AQC) robotic sorters to run multiple shifts with minimal variable cost increase.

BHS said that the new system allows NG to take on more tonnage, create a highly marketable product, and decrease labor costs.

The NG’s facility in Oslo will receive unsorted paper and cardboard from both residential and commercial customers from southern Norway.

According to BHS, the resulting pure, outbound material from the NG’s facility will be used to create new paper and cardboard.

BHS Europe sales manager Richard Tromp said: “This system will truly be a first of sorts, whereby BHS, NRT and Max-AI technologies come together to not only deliver unmatched performance, but to also provide NG with intelligent and actionable reporting throughout the system – including product quality.”

The NRT SpydIR-R units of the recycling system also allow NG to recover aseptic containers and remove contamination from mixed paper.

BHS said in statement: “With both NRT and Max-AI technologies reporting material compositions and communicating together through the Total Intelligence Platform, NG’s operators will gain valuable analytics to track, analyze and share with customers.”

US-based BHS is engaged in design, engineering, manufacturing and installation of sorting systems and components for the solid waste, recycling, waste-to-energy, and construction and demolition industries.
