Gizeh has developed deep-drawn, highly transparent EVOH packaging which allows even sensitive food and products to be marketed in highly transparent plastics cups.

Gizeh says its new process now makes it possible to have a brilliant, highly transparent appearance with a simultaneous oxygen barrier independently of the filling line. As is the case with all oxygen-tight packaging, the use of preservatives or cooling is not required for certain foods, the company states.

“Our new packaging combines two characteristics that up to now were regarded as incompatible in the deep-drawing process,“ explains Frank Kriener, head of the manufacturing division at Gizehm: “An appearance that is as clear as glass and, at the same time, optimum protection of flavour and freshness using an oxygen barrier.” In future the new packaging will be used particularly for high-quality and sensitive food – delicacies, sausages and cold meats, as well as baby food.

The new packaging processes several special plastics layers within the scope of its so-called inline deep-draw process. Extrusion of the plastics and the deep-drawing take place in a continuous operation – ‘handling the molecular structure of the material in an extremely careful manner’.
