Georgia-Pacific Recycling and affiliates of Waste Connections have extended their Recyclable Material Master Purchase Agreement to continue advancing the circularity of recyclable goods.

The multi-year extension is intended to reduce the demand for virgin materials by using high-quality recyclable materials to create new goods and packaging. This will include the use of baled old corrugated containers (OCC) to make new products and packaging.

New York-based Georgia-Pacific Recycling is a recyclable material marketer of commodities processed by Waste Connections affiliates.

Georgia-Pacific Recycling sales and trading VP Ray Oge said: “Extending this partnership is a testament to our success to date.

“We are excited about the opportunity to continue to grow the collection and reuse of recyclables in ways that create value for Waste Connections and its customers as well as Georgia-Pacific Recycling customers for many years to come.”

The recyclable material marketer said that recycling materials are recovered through the collection and sorting networks run by Waste Connections throughout the US and Canada.

Georgia-Pacific Recycling makes use of its nationwide network to match this supply with the market-based demand for recyclables.

Through this relationship, recycling may be reused more easily, from curbside to making new products, the New York-based firm added.

Waste Connections recycling executive director Dan Kurtz said: “We are pleased to extend our partnership with Georgia-Pacific.

“Partnering with Georgia-Pacific supports our efforts to achieve our aspirational ESG target of expanding resource recovery by 50%.”

The recyclable materials firm also supplies wastepaper to Georgia-Pacific tissue and containerboard mills.

Waste Connections focuses on providing waste collection, transfer and disposal services. It also provides resource recovery through recycling and renewable fuel generation.

Additionally, it offers oilfield waste treatment, recovery, and disposal services in several basins across the US and intermodal services for the transportation of cargo and solid waste containers.
