Opsec Brand Protection, part of Applied Optical Technologies, has developed a new form of security packaging to protect pharmaceuticals against counterfeiting.

Working with Italian-based foil convert-ers Antonio Carcano, the com-pany has developed a holo-graphic blisterpack material which incorporates a secure optical image and is print receptive to allow overprinting with individual corporate brands and graphics.

The introduction follows the development of optical transfer films featuring secure images that can be transferred onto heat sealable aluminium using the same platen sealing blister machinery used in the produc-tion of conventional blisterpacks. As a result, the integration of secure images with the conventional tamper-evident properties of the blisterpack is said to offer a highly effective primary packaging solution against counterfeiting.
