Greenbridge’s PET recycling division Evergreen has unveiled plans to acquire a PET recycling facility from CarbonLite in the US for an undisclosed sum.

Located in Riverside, California, the facility is expected to help Evergreen to enhance its position as a PET recycler and manufacturer of food-grade RPET.

The 220,000ft² facility is suitable for both post-consumer PET bottle recycling and processing of food-grade RPET pellet.

It is said to have an annual capacity of more than 100 million pounds of RPET per annum.

The acquisition will also allow Evergreen to expand its presence in North America with locations in the Midwest and West Coast.

Greenbridge CEO Omar Abuaita said: “As I stated during Evergreen’s groundbreaking ceremony in early May, we’re in growth mode and focused on elevating our commitment to RPET bottle-to-bottle recycling and closing the loop.

“This is an exciting time; Riverside’s recycling and food-grade RPET manufacturing capabilities are well aligned with the great team and operations we have in place at Evergreen and our plans to bring more high quality, food-grade RPET to our customers.”

The deal is following Evergreen’s recent announcement of a major expansion at its Clyde facility in Ohio.

It will help double the manufacturing capacity of food grade RPET from 40 million pounds to over 80 million pounds per annum by mid-2022.

The expansion consists of building a 54,000ft² facility, thereby allowing the Ohio plant to increase its space to 300,000ft².

Evergreen will add solid-state polycondensation reactors to existing RPET pelletising lines to meet stringent specifications needed by the FDA and food and beverage customers.

Evergreen, a major PET recycler in the US, collects and processes over one billion post-consumer PET bottles. It produces 40 million pounds of food-grade RPET per annum.
