German chemical company BASF has unveiled its plans to add a second production line at its polymer dispersions production plant in the Daya Bay Petrochemical Industrial Park in Guangdong, China.
Expected to be operational in 2024, the new line will increase the production capacity of polymer dispersions.
The expansion plan aligns with the German firm’s strategy to continue investing in growing Asian markets.
According to the company, the new line will support the architectural coatings, construction, and battery binder industries.
Additionally, the expanded capacity will aid advanced innovations with acrylics and styrene butadiene-containing dispersions.
BASF Greater China Dispersions director Jeff Liu said: “This expansion marks another key milestone in the development of our polymer dispersions business in Greater China.
“Innovative Polymer Dispersions are vital for our customers to succeed in their markets. The additional capacity will enable agility and sustainable growth for our customers, especially in the South China market.”
BASF said that the Daya Bay facility is strategically positioned close to important clients in South China.
It produces a wide range of goods, including acrylics and styrene-butadiene-containing dispersions, for a variety of markets, including lithium-ion batteries and the construction, architectural coatings, paper, and adhesives sectors.
BASF Asia Pacific Dispersions senior vice president Bir Darbar Mehta said: “Together with our global and regional R&D centres, we are keen to offer our customers innovative products with enhanced sustainability features.
“For example, the Daya Bay site produces next-generation dispersions products such as BASF’s award-winning Acronal PLUS 7679.
“It combines our latest Advanced Odor Reduction (AOR) technology that overcomes the smell of the paint on interior walls and defines a new benchmark for interior paints.”
The German chemical firm’s dispersions business unit has three production plants in China. The site in Daya Bay, Guangdong started its production in 2012.
In January this year, the company announced its plans to expand the capacity of polymer dispersions at its production site in Merak, Indonesia.
