The six-color and fully-automated EF 430 flexo printing press has been purchased by Barthel Gruppe to replace an older flexo press to manufacture labels for the food industry.

The EF 430 flexo press is the 24th MPS press purchased by Barthel.

MPS EF press is an automated multi-substrate flexo press developed for label production and flexible packaging printing.

The press is provided with UV, hot-air and LED drying technology, which enables users to print on different substrates such as thin film, paper, cartonboard, shrink sleeves, inmould, lamitube and flexible packaging.

MPS Systems (Germany) sales manager Frank Kuntke said: “After 18 years, Barthel remains a loyal MPS customer. It’s truly an honour receiving this additional sale for our EF multi-substrate flexo press, as a testament of the value MPS provides in label printing, innovation and service.”

Barthel Gruppe, which is a group of six label printing firms, operates manufacturing plants in Germany and the Netherlands.

Barthel Gruppe is said to produce around 270,000m² of labels daily at four locations.

Barthel is specialized in printing self-adhesive labels for multiple markets, including food, wine and spirits, home care, cosmetics, pharma, chemistry and automotive markets.

Based in Essen, the company employs more than 300 people and generates revenue of around €70m per annum.

Barthel Gruppe managing director Mischa Barthel said: : “From years of partnering with MPS, we can confidently rely on MPS’ press technology, robustness, and service when we need it. Our MPS presses consistently deliver the same stable results — regardless of the operator that runs them.

“That is why we put our trust in MPS again, and look forward to enhancing label production with our new EF 430 press.”

In April this year, Dutch label printer Etiketten Drukkerij Noord Nederland (EDNN) installed a MPS EF SYMJET hybrid press to enhance its digital label printing capability.

The EF SYMJET press is installed with the fully automated MPS EF flexo platform and an integrated Domino N610i digital UV inkjet label press.
