The Closed Loop Fund is a social impact investment fund, which is designed to support recycling programs across the country and advance the development of more circular supply chains.

The company is planning to announce the first project in early 2019, helping the firm to advance its efforts to achieve 2025 sustainability goals announced last spring.

Anheuser-Busch sustainability vice president Angie Slaughter said: “We have a long history of finding innovative ways to reduce our environmental footprint and through this partnership look forward to continuing that tradition in our local Texas communities.

“Together with our Houston and Karbach breweries and Longhorn Glass, we are thrilled to be working with the Closed Loop Fund in Texas to further our 2025 Sustainability Goals as we strive to achieve our dream of building a better world.”

Anheuser-Busch is investing in Closed Loop Fund projects to enhance the percentage of recycled glass used at its Longhorn production facility, enabling to achieve its efforts to use 100% majority recycled or returnable packaging by 2025.

Established in 2014, the Closed Loop Fund provides capital to the cities for the development of comprehensive recycling programs.

By 2025, the Closed Loop Fund intends to invest $100m to create economic value for cities by enhancing recycling rates in communities across America and build circular supply chains.

The investors of Closed Loop Fund include 3M, Coca-Cola, Colgate-Palmolive, Johnson & Johnson Family of Consumer Companies, Keurig Dr. Pepper, Nestlé Waters North America, PepsiCo and the PepsiCo Foundation, Procter & Gamble, Unilever and the Walmart Foundation.

Closed Loop Fund impact vice president Ellen Martin said: “At Closed Loop Fund, we are exploring new regional models to add value and improve the economics for material streams like fiber, plastics, and glass.

“In a single stream environment, significant investment is needed to ensure glass maintains its value.”

Anheuser-Busch has 23 breweries, 29 distributorships and 23 agricultural and packaging facilities.

The firm produces beer brands such as Budweiser, Bud Light, Michelob ULTRA and Stella Artois, as well as multiple regional brands.
