Packaging company Amcor has opened a new healthcare packaging facility in Tuas, Singapore.

Designed to meet current and future market requirements, the new greenfield packaging facility consists of cleanroom manufacturing environments with three, seven and nine-layer co-extrusion blown film and advanced flexographic printing capabilities.

Amcor chief commercial officer Peter Konieczny said: “With the Asia Pacific healthcare packaging market expected to grow at a more than 8% through 2026, Amcor is laying the foundation to support that growth with this advanced facility in the region.

“Our innovative and regional approach in this space, coupled with our commitment to sustainability, will ensure our continued industry leadership for customers of all sizes, as well as the environment.”

To boost advancement in co-extrusion blown film technology, the company is creating an innovation centre for healthcare films in the Singapore facility.

Via the new centre, Amcor aims to leverage its global product platform and strengthen innovation capabilities to launch new technologies, innovations and advanced products into the market to serve customers in the Asia Pacific.

The new packaging facility leverages water-based printing technology that helps to avoid solvent emissions, thus helping the company to meet its sustainable goals.

The facility’s multilayer blown films hold the potential to produce recycle-ready products and its multilayer film technology enables new product innovation with a lower carbon footprint.

Amcor Southeast Asia healthcare general manager Scott Jackson said: “Healthcare is one of the fastest-growing industries in the region, and customers are looking for packaging suppliers that can improve their speed to the market.

“Our new Singapore facility is a meaningful step towards expanding our product offerings and increasing our capacity to support customer growth, now and well into the future.”

In August this year, Amcor announced plans to construct two new innovation centres in Belgium and China to expand its global network.
