Mexican bottler of soft-drinks Arca Continental has invested about $20m to open a new production line at its plant in Guayaquil, Ecuador, which is expected to contribute to a 35% increase in production capacity in the country.

Over the last two years, Arca Continental has made investments of over $70m in Ecuador, both the new production line, and for the upgrading of equipment, machinery and infrastructure and information technology in the three bottling plants in the country.

The new technologies in the Guayaquil Plant will allow Arca Continental to attain 16% reduction in electricity consumption and 30% decrease in the weight of PET containers.

The investment is part of the company’s overall plan to strengthen its operations in Ecuador and Argentina, in seeking to streamline its processes and support sustainability strategy.

According to the company, the new production line has the machinery for PET bottle blowing, labeling and filling rate, which translates into an hourly production capacity of 48,000 bottles.
