Hybrid packaging company Berlin Packaging has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Netherlands-based Bark Packaging Group in a bid to bolster its footprint in Northern Europe.

Bark Packaging is a supplier of industrial, flexible, and UN-certified packaging.

Henk Bark founded Bark Packaging in 1978 and since then the company expanded from being a traditional wholesaler of packaging to a value-added supplier of industrial packaging.

With the acquisition of Dutch Pack International in 2017 and CarePack in 2021, Bark expanded into flexible packaging and UN-certified packaging for the transportation of hazardous commodities respectively.

The company also provides distinctive and personalised designs through Bark Innovations.

In June 2022, Bark acquired DeeDee Pouch Professionals, which supplies eco-friendly pouch solutions as well as other flexible products to the European food and chemical markets.

Berlin Benelux, Nordics and DACH regions head Marcel Schröder said: “The addition of Bark and DeeDee will give Berlin Packaging a stronger foothold in Northern Europe, especially for flexible and UN-certified packaging.

“It will also expand our industrial packaging capabilities in Northern Europe, including Germany, a key European market.

“We are eager to welcome our new colleagues from Bark and DeeDee and are confident that combining these companies with Berlin Packaging will help us serve our clients better than ever.”

Since 2020, the private equity firm Quadrum Capital has been a minor shareholder in Bark. After the transaction with Berlin Packaging completes, Quadrum Capital will withdraw from Bark.

The transaction is scheduled to close in the fourth quarter, subject to customary closing conditions.

Berlin Packaging will retain Bark’s all employees and locations under the deal.

Last month, Berlin Packaging completed the acquisition of turnkey packaging solutions provider Jansy.
