Closure Systems International (CSI) has unveiled a new tethered closure design, which enables to keep plastics in the economy and away from the environment.

The Twist & Flip closure will help accelerate the recyclability of the closure by making it attached to the bottle across the product’s lifecycle.

The Twist & Flip tethered closure can be made using CSI’s PolyCycle resin, a sustainable option.

CSI said that its 100% FDA-approved post-consumer recycled (PCR) material serves as an ideal closed-loop packaging solution.

With intuitive ease-of-opening, the Twist & Flip closure can be precisely twisted and flipped for opening.

The new design consists of connector strands on the tamper-evident band, which keep the closure attached after opening and allow the consumer to easily recap the bottle.

A locking mechanism will facilitate an interference-free drinking experience by locking at 180 degrees when the cap is fully open.

The company stated that the Twist & Flip closure is precision-engineered to deliver better application performance on bottler lines while minimising overall costs and closure weight.

The Twist & Flip design, which is dimensionally interchangeable with existing industry closures as a drop-in replacement, is commercially available in a range of product or pack requirements, including 26mm, 28mm, and 38mm diameters.

CSI is offering the new tethered cap in 14 colours and clear to deliver better shelf appeal and boost brand recognition.

CSI business development vice president Richard Burt said: “As an active member of the U.S. Plastics Pact, Sustainable Packaging Coalition, and The Association of Plastic Recyclers, we are collaborating within our industry, our communities, and with our customers, to eliminate plastic pollution and improve recovery and recycling rates.

“Our closures are designed to advance sustainable packaging and procurement innovations, and drive progress against the Global Goals.”

In November last year, CSI joined the US Plastics Pact to achieve circular economy goals by 2025.
