According to a survey by peristaltic pump manufacturer Watson-Marlow Bredel, time taken to clean machinery has been revealed as the main cause of downtime within production in the UK industry, with over half (52 per cent) of companies polled citing this as their main frustration. Along with cleaning, 24 per cent of companies cited faulty machinery as a main cause of production downtime and 13 per cent claimed human error. Encouragingly, only seven per cent claimed to have issues with contamination and four per cent with labour shortages.
