A ‘next generation’ digital printing process is soon to be launched by Tonejet, who claims it will offer an “unmatched combination of outstanding image quality, low cost of ownership and high productivity”.
The new process is based on an electrostatic drop-on-demand deposition technology said to enable high quality designs to be printed onto virtually any absorbing or non absorbing substrate at high speed. Tonejet claims it has the ability to deposit concentrated pigmented inks and to vary the droplet volume continuously without impacting on throughput. The use of passive printhead structures and the continuously flowing ink system is said to achieve a high degree of reliability.
Because the new process deposits inks which are similar in many respects to conventional printing inks, excellent results can be achieved in terms of abrasion and water resistance, colour gamut and film thickness without the need for special surface preparation, coatings or curing regimes.
Tonejet’s John Teape comments: “We have been working with a number of industry leaders in the printing and packaging sectors to take our technology to the market, and we are bringing on new strategic partners as the technology evolves”. His company has been trialling the process in a number of areas including packaging films.
