Sun Chemical, a subsidiary of Sun Chemical Group Coöperatief, has introduced a new range of UV varnishes to provide an enhanced label resistance for HP Indigo digitally printed labels.

The new varnishes were designed to provide adhesion to HP Indigo ElectroInk and to provide high mechanical durability on HP Indigo printed labels.

The pressure-sensitive digitally printed labels from HP’s graphic solutions business are used for personal care, household, chemical, beverage, and pharma products.

Having undergone vigorous bottle-to-bottle scuffing test, the new varnishes would deliver mechanical, chemical, water and thermal resistance, said the company.

The solution, which offers superior durability and sustainability advantages, is said to be cost-effective and serves as an alternative to clumsy lamination processes.

Sun Chemical SunEvo Coatings global business development manager Marcos Valdezate said: “We have conducted field trials with the HP Indigo community across many countries for a few months and the response has been phenomenal.

“Customers have challenged the durability of these varnishes and have seen how long-lasting they are. This is another great example of how coating innovation can expand the range of applications for digital printers and actively expand their offering.”

The company offers the new range of varnishes as a press-ready solution that eliminates the need for the addition of any press-side additives, making them easy to use.

The solution has been tested across a few widespread label substrates, including PP White, PP Clear and Metalized Substrates, ensuring a consistent level of performance.

Sun Chemical has started commercial production in Europe with plans to start other regions soon. It offers the two products EV-LU028 GLOSS and EV-LU029 MATTE as part of the set.

HP Indigo global supplies business director Itai Shifriss said: “Through innovative varnishes, adhesives and coatings, DIC Sun Chemical is enabling HP Indigo customers to pursue cutting edge solutions.

“We appreciate our collaboration with DIC Sun Chemical and look forward to advancing our customers growth together.”

Sun Chemical is engaged in producing packaging and graphic solutions, colour and display technologies, functional products, electronic materials, and products.
