A plastic food tray incorporating "easy snappable" portion segments that enables users to microwave different parts of a ready meal for different times to suit their individual cooking requirements is now available from Linpac Plastics.

Made from a heat-stabilised polystyrene, the “LINcool snapper” trays, extend the range of LINcool packs which are designed to keep food hot while remaining cool-to-the-touch externally.

Alongside consumer convenience, the trays reportedly also offer food manufacturers significant potential cost savings, since they can be run on high speed filling lines, “reducing the need for multiple filling and labour-intensive packing”. Lidding films with a simple self-venting feature are also available.

Linpac believes the trays are among the first of their kind and it says “very extensive” r&d was needed to perfect the perforation feature to enable the segments to be easily snapped off.
