SIG Combibloc has won the German Packaging Competition 2003 with combishape, a filling machine system for multi-shape, aseptic beverage cartons.

Now in its 26th year, The Deutsches Verpackungsinstitute.V. (German Packaging Institute) awarded the prize, which honours outstanding achievements and developments.

By winning the German competition, SIG has automatically qualified for the international packaging competition WorldStar, held by the World Packaging Organisation.

“The machine concept of combishape is characterised by high shape and format flexibility with up to 42 different shapes. The uniform operating concept throughout the production line – filling machine, downstream – the flexible shaping of the packs and the sealing in of large pourer cross-sections make the machine concept an innovative and clear system,” said the jury. Made up of independent specialists, it judged the 158 entries submitted in the five categories of sales packaging, transport packaging, display packaging, machine concepts and prototypes.

The CSA F10 gives aseptic cartons an individual shape and consequently provides branded products with their own identity – whether oval, moon-shaped, triangular, pentagonal or even octagonal.

SIG Combibloc and SIG allCap have also won the Institute of Packaging Professionals (IOPP) 2003 AmeriStar Packaging Award for the company’s combiTwist closure and the combifit aseptic beverage carton.

The jury commented: “The combiTwist is an easy to use closure which ideally compliments the design of the combifit aseptic beverage carton.”
