Sharpak Aylesham launch targets fast food market

Sharpak Aylesham is launching two new ranges of packaging in response to the growing demand in high-end fast food.

In the wake of recent statistics which show Britons spend nearly £30 billion every year on takeaways and convenience meals, and a third of their food budget on fast food1, the UK manufacturer of thermoformed plastic packaging has produced a new variety of sushi packaging and the Wokipack to keep up with consumer demand.

Mark Byrne, sales director foodservice at Sharpak Aylesham says, "Convenient, healthy eating is becoming increasingly popular, particularly Japanese food which is the fastest growing cuisine in the world2. Our sushi range, manufactured in rpet, has been specifically repacked into box quantities which are geared towards the foodservice customer and the growing sushi market."

Sharpak Aylesham has also developed the Wokipack for consumers wanting the restaurant dining experience without leaving the house.

Mark explains, "The Wokipack is a bespoke packaging solution available in three sizes that are table-ready with a form and design created for pasta dishes as well as hot and cold salads."

The new collections are being launched following the successful integration of GPI Holdings into Sharpak Aylesham in January 2014.

Mark says, "For over 24 years GPI Holdings has provided a wide range of off-the-shelf packaging solutions to keep up with the growing trend for takeaway sales, primarily through its Sekipack, Multipack and Optipack ranges.

"By incorporating GPI, Sharpak Aylesham can consolidate its position in the UK foodservice market as a leading supplier of innovative plastic packaging solutions which meet the changing needs of the industry and the newly launched ranges bolster our portfolio of products in excess of 6,000 lines."

Sharpak Aylesham is a member of the foodservice packaging association (FPA). The FPA encourages the use of disposable foodservice packaging by promoting and encouraging further development of its performance with respect to hygiene, safety, convenience, economy, reducing food waste, environment and sustainability.
