Scratch_and_Sniff

Sessions of York, which has offered customers self-adhesive “scratch and sniff” labels with a microencapsulated fragrance to match the smell of their products for several years, has significantly enhanced its capabilities in this area.

While the company was previously restricted to three printed colours plus the fragrance slurry, and it was often necessary to print the label on a first pass and the slurry on a second, Sessions has recently perfected applying a flexo-applied microencapsulated “scent” instead of the previous screen-printed version. Consequently it can now manufacture the labels on its eight, nine and 10-colour presses, resulting in a high quality four-colour process illustration plus spot colours and fragrance slurry application in line. This streamlined process means shorter lead times, and Sessions says, a more cost-effective product.
