Sappi Europe and Felix Schoeller have signed a collaboration agreement for the joint development of sustainable barrier paper solutions for flexible packaging.

By combining their competencies in their respective fields, the two companies aim to provide their customers with more sustainable and efficient packaging solutions for their products.

Sappi Europe produces specialty paper and carton boards and over several decades, the company is claimed to have gained comprehensive expertise in the sector.

In recent years, the company upgraded from pure substrate supplier to a provider of complete paper and carton packaging solutions. Sappi also claims to have been designing innovative products and intelligent answers to future questions and trends in the packaging market.

Felix Schoeller, on the other hand is a paper producer from Germany, established in 1895, producing more than 300,000 tonnes of speciality paper.

It produces specialty papers for analogue and digital photographic and digital printing, nonwovens for the wallpaper industry as well as release liners and decor papers.

In addition to its Osnabrück main site and headquarters, the company has four other production facilities in Germany. It also has manufacturing facilities in the US and Canada and is involved in a joint venture in the Russian Federation.

Felix Schoeller Group chief operating officer Hans-Christoph Gallenkamp said: “Our collaboration with Sappi creates many synergies.

“We will be integrating our specialist expertise to pursue the development of unique packaging solutions that will benefit the industry and the environment.”
