Rapak develops custom bag-in-box bag and connecting system for juice concentrate dispensing unit

Rapak, part of DS Smith Plastics, has created a custom designed high performance flexible bag and quick connecting system for a juice beverage dispenser for one of the world’s leading beverage companies.

A Bag-in-Box system was to be used in a newly developed juice beverage dispensing unit intended to revolutionize fruit juice dispensing in hotels, restaurants and other hospitality establishments.

The customer’s goal was to supply a superior tasting juice when compared with other conventional products offered in various hospitality establishments.

Working closely in a true co-development project with the customer, Rapak created a system comprised of a custom designed bag featuring a high oxygen barrier laminate and a new version of Rapak’s Strivo™ Line Side Connector and tube assembly.

The Strivo Line Side Connector was an essential element to include in the proposal due to its ease of use and ability to efficiently dispense highly viscous liquids and pulpy juice beverages. Rapak’s design process included determining proper bag dimensions, material selection and tube connector assembly all integrated into the customer’s machine cartridge.

Rapak’s efforts in re-engineering its ‘Connect, Twist and Lock’ Strivo line side connector, alongside the development of a new bag design, offered positive results and was approved by the customer.

The Strivo connector easily connects the Bag-in-Box fitment to the new juice concentrate dispensing machine using a special tube assembly that works well with a peristaltic pump.  The tube meters the juice concentrate that goes through a mixing chamber to dispense a properly blended juice drink. 

The new bag and tube work perfectly with the highly viscous juice concentrate.  In addition, the Connect, Twist, and Lock Strivo fitment and tube assembly makes change-over operations easy. 

Rapak’s Strivo Line Side Connector is the ideal fitment for fruit juice and other pulp-based juice beverages.  The connector has a large opening and connects very easily to the bag fitment.
