Pan-European packaging company Plus Pack says retailer and brand owner demand for innovative and bespoke plastic food packaging was behind its decision to launch a UK sales operation early this year.

Founded in Denmark 42 years ago, Plus Pack established its reputation as a producer of foil packaging, still an important activity today. However, explains new recruit Shawn Roberts, who will head up the UK sales drive initially from his Midlands home, the last seven years has seen the Group focus heavily on thermoforming plastic containers for the food sector in materials including CPET, APET, PP other styrenes and PLA.

He explains: “The UK market for plastic packaging such as salad and fruit bowls, poultry and meat trays, ready meal containers and microwaveable packs, has grown to the extent that Plus Pack felt it could no longer be ignored. Initially I will cover the UK and Eire myself, but we plan recruiting several more sales staff soon and, perhaps within18 months, potentially also opening a UK manufacturing base.

“In addition to extensive thermoforming expertise, Plus Pack offers a bespoke packaging design service. Thermoformers in mainland Europe offer a wider range of shapes, designs and plastic pack styles than their UK counterparts, which we believe will appeal to retailer and brand owner customers.”

Plus Pack, which promises to introduce “a number of exciting new plastic packaging products” in the UK this year, is headquartered in Odense, Denmark and also has a factory in Genk, Belgium, specialising in foil packaging.
