The latest product to benefit from Alert Packaging’s Micro Crisp range of susceptor laminates for microwave applications is the Bite Me pizza tubes from Heinz.

The gravure printed multi-layer film creates temperatures up to 2200C inside the pack when microwaved, providing a cooking time of around two minutes.

The majority of susceptor products are based on board but Alert’s film is a self-venting material. Suceptors absorb some of the microwave energy during cooking and convert it to heat within the pack. The advantage of a flexible package is that it wraps entirely around the food product.

As the pack heats it opens slowly to vent some of the steam build-up. Alert says the film keeps the product crisp and appetising and browns the food when in direct contact, whilst the self-venting alleviates the risk of scalding.
