Welsh expatriots need now never feel cut off from their roots following the launch of a new business by a Welsh civil servant who is now selling bottles of “Welsh air”.

Backed in his endeavours by Prime Cymru, a Welsh business agency which helps the over-50s start establish start-ups, John Gronow from Cardiff claims to have already travelled to Snowdonia and the Brecon Beacons to “gather” the air.

For sceptics he can supply a photo of each bottle with a suitable landmark customers can identify with. He says: “I am offering a genuine service for people who want something of Wales that reminds them of their childhood or their homeland – not a fairground product, but something people will want to keep and put amongst their cut glass.”

The bottles, from Winsford-based Continental Bottles, feature a simulated etched “dragon” design, incorporate sprayed matt silver PP overcaps (also from Continental) and are presented in an attractive 1,250 micron embossed and hot foiled carton from Swansea-based Welsh Gift Boxes made of Diva cartonboard and featuring the same dragon motif.
