Cargill Dow, the US based 50:50 joint venture of Cargill Inc and Dow Chemical, has opened a European office at Naarden, near Amsterdam. It will support the company's promotion of its NatureWorks technology for the production of a proprietary polyactide polymer from natural plant sugars.

“The response to NatureWorks has been particularly strong in Europe,” says Cargill Dow president Randy Howard. “With major converters and manufacturers such as Bimo Italia and Trespaphan already committed to the use of our technology, opening a regional office to service our current and future European demand made sound business sense.”

He says construction of a European manufacturing plant could start in 2004 if regional demand continues to increase.
