Narrow splicing and roll changing

Two new narrow web handling systems from Martin Automatic are claimed to offer fast payback. The STS automatic butt splicer and STR automatic roll changer feature an innovative carousel concept to reduce floorspace requirements without compromising press performance.

Available in web widths up to 330mm, the new machines are designed for easy use and fast roll changes to offer “significant improvements in productivity”. They can be installed on new equipment or retrofitted to existing plant, and are said to require little maintenance.

The STR will wind rolls without foldback at the core, eliminating wrinkling and materials waste, while a lay-on roller and integrated web guide provide greater winding control for better quality rolls. A cart is used for loading and unloading the rolls.
