Speakers from international associations, academia and industry will present the first results from the Sustainpack packaging research project at a Pira International conference in Stockholm on December 6-7.
Sustainpack is a four-year packaging research project that will use the latest nanotechnology developments to formulate new and enhanced materials “to establish paper based packaging as the dominant player in packaging within a decade”.
Kennert Johansson, project co-ordinator from STFI-Packforsk, comments: “Sustainpack will provide the packaging industry with opportunities on a number of different levels. Fibre based packaging will benefit from major research advances, the focus on sustainability will add value to our knowledge across the whole supply chain, and packaging research across Europe will gain great momentum. This conference gives industry the chance to learn at first hand about progress made in year one.”
Michael Sturges, a sub project leader at Pira International, adds: “The conference will be a showcase for how research focused on nanotechnology and microtechnology breakthroughs will deliver a new generation of sustainable, competitive fibre based packaging solutions.”
