The Metal Packaging Manufacturers Association (MPMA) says an exceptional number of entries in this year’s Best In Metal Awards reflects the advances being made in metal packaging in both traditional and new markets. The latest Bowmore Legend collector’s whisky tin made by Crown Speciality Packaging with graphics by Blue Peach took the Supreme Gold.

MPMA Director Tony Woods said, “The Supreme Gold Award is made to the entry that the industry should be most proud of. The multi-level embossing on to visually striking graphics, and the excellent quality of the work make the Bowmore Legend tin a stunning piece of packaging.” The container also took the Gold Award in the new Consumer Appeal Category.

Winner of the Technical Innovation Gold was the new Alusnap brand protection system made for BOLS Vodka by Globalcap Daniel Montgomery. This modular closure system is aid to offer considerable advances in tamper evidence, non-refillability and brand identity.

A new curved tab on the Crosse & Blackwell The Full Monty can was awarded Gold for Functionality. Developed by Crown Food Europe/Food UK for Premier Foods it makes easy open ends even more convenient, “a significant improvement for the volume food can market”.

In the New Products/New Market Applications category Gold went to the Kenco Ice Cappio can made by Ball Packaging Europe for Kraft Foods, which has taken the beverage can with a widget into the new market of foaming iced coffee.
